Waiting on Wednesday #12- Society, Etiquette, Selection, Story...

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted by
Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. Be sure to post a link to your Waiting on Wednesday below!

This week's pre-publication "We can't wait to read it!" selection is:

Release Date: December 6, 2012
Publisher: Dial (Penguin)

Set in London at the turn of the last century, the novel follows the stories of three intelligent and very talented young women, all of whom are assistants to very powerful men: Cora, lab assistant to a member of parliament; Michiko, Japanese fight assistant to a martial arts guru; and Nellie, a magician's assistant. The three young women's lives become inexorably intertwined after a chance meeting at a ball that ends with the discovery of a murdered mystery man.
It's up to these three, in their own charming but bold way, to solve the murder-and the crimes they believe may be connected to it-without calling too much attention to themselves.

This looks and sounds SO good! WOW! I mean, look at that cover! Looks like Steampunk heaven to me!

(The Finishing School, Book 1)
Release Date: February 1, 2013
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

It's one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It's quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to finishing school.
Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is the bane of her mother's existence. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper etiquette at tea-and god forbid anyone see her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. She enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.
But little do Sophronia or her mother know that this is a school where ingenious young girls learn to finish, all right-but it's a different kind of finishing. Mademoiselle Geraldine's certainly trains young ladies in the finer arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but also in the other kinds of finishing: the fine arts of death, diversion, deceit, espionage and the modern weaponries. Sophronia and her friends are going to have a rousing first year at school.
First in a four book YA series set 25 years before the Parasol Protectorate but in the same universe.

This looks so amazing too! WOW again! I mean look at THIS cover! I'm so glad I saw both of these 2 last week on Starting the Next Chapter b/c they look awesome!

Release Date: April 24, 2012
Publisher: HarperTeen

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself-and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.(Summary from Goodreads)

When I was looking through future pubs on Goodreads I was going to use different ones, but THIS was the first one on a list I found and the cover blew me away! The striking red hair-marking her as the MC (main character) and an individual against the mirrored images of all the other girls competing for the hand of the prince-cool!

Release Date: April 24, 2012
Publisher: Simon Pulse

Cricket's on a self-imposed break from her longtime boyfriend-but she's picked a bad week to sort out her love life. For one thing, her mother's romance is taking center stage: After jilting two previous fiances, her mom is finally marrying Dan Jax, whom Cricket loves. But as wedding attendees arrive for a week of festivities at a guesthouse whose hippie owners have a sweet, sexy son-Ash-complications arise:
Cricket's future stepsisters make it clear they're not happy about the marriage. An old friend decides this is the week to declare his love for Cricket. Grandpa chooses to reveal a big secret at a family gathering. Dan's ex-wife shows up. And even the dogs-Cricket's old, ill Jupiter and Dan's young, lively Cruiser-seem to be declaring war.
While Cricket fears that Dan is in danger of becoming ditched husband-to-be number three, she's also alarmed by her own desires. Because even though her boyfriend looms large in her mind, Ash is right in front of her...(Summary from Goodreads)

I love anything by Deb Caletti! She always has strong female characters who are going through tough issues-usually many at the same time :) -but things always work out the way they should (maybe not the way the reader wants, but that's what makes the story believable and interesting.)

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?
