This week's pre-publication "We can't wait to read it!" selections are...

  Renegade
(The Elysium Chronicles, Book 1)
Author: J.A. Souders
Release Date: November 13, 2012
Published by: Tor Teen

Since the age of three, sixteen-year-old Evelyn Winters has been trained to be Daughter of the People in the underwater utopia known as Elysium. Selected from hundreds of children for her ideal genes, all her life she's thought that everything was perfect; her world. Her people. The law.
But when Gavin Hunter, a Surface Dweller, accidentally stumbles into their secluded little world, she's forced to come to a startling realization: everything she know is a lie. Her memories have been altered. Her mind and body aren't under her own control. And the person she knows as Mother is a monster.
Together with Gavin she plans her escape, only to learn that her own mind is a ticking time bomb...and Mother has one last secret that will destroy them all. (Summary from Goodreads)

How neat! An underwater utopia/dystopia. It sounds like a little mermaid reversal with the guy finding her world underwater. I'm curious about what ticking time-bomb in her mind is...genetics?

Author: Megan Shepherd
Release Date: January 29, 2013
Published by: Balzer + Bray

London, 1894. Juiet Moreau has built a life for herself-working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns her father is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations were true.
Juliet is accompanied by the doctor's handsome young assistant and an enigmatic castaway, who both attract Juliet for very different reasons. They travel to the island only to discover the depths of her father's madness: he has created animals that have been vivisected to resemble, speak, and behave as humans. Worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island's inhabitants. Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape the island, even though her horror is mixed with her own scientific curiosity. As the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius--and madness--in her own blood. (Summary from Goodreads)

Doesn't this sound interesting? That gray line that lies between genius and madness is rather fascinating and horrifying all at the same time. Plus, this seems to be a retelling of H.G. Wells  classic, The Island of Dr. Moreau from 1896. This happens to be one classic syfy novel I haven't read, but just might have to try out before I delve into this one next year. Oh how I love classic syfy novels! I hope this retelling is as rich and amazing as the classics I love so much.

What are you waiting on this week?
